2 New Card and Envelope Packs

December 26th, 2011

Our card and envelope packs are excellent value for money and one of our best selling items to card makers so we have added 2 new card and envelope packs to our range.

The first is a pack of 30 A6 Kraft cards and matching envelopes.

Kraft card, with its reminiscence of brown wrapping paper is extremely popular at the moment and these cards are A6 – 148mm x 105mm when folded.

The second of our new card and envelope packs are these lovely scalloped edge cards in white.

There are 50 cards and envelopes in a pack for just £6.99. The cards are square and measure 148mm x 148mm – just a tad less than 6 inches x 6 inches.

Either pack would make a great addition to your card making stash.

Pretty Lace for Card Making

December 19th, 2011

Cards with a vintage look are so popular at the moment and have been for quite a while and adding a touch of lace just finishes off any vintage design.

Our lace is so popular that we actually ran out of it earlier in the year but our lovely supplier has come up with 4 new lace trims for us that are just gorgeous.

There is flat lace in both white and ivory which is 12mm wide and perfect for card making. Here is the ivory.

The other lace is a frilled lace also available in white and ivory. The frilled lace is 15mm wide with a lovely scallop edge. Here is the white.

All the lace will add that vintage touch to your card making but if you w3ant to give lace that “antique” look then try dabbing it with Tim Holtz Distress Inks. the Tea Dye Distress Ink is particularly good for this but when Madeleine made the card below she used Victorian Velvet as the colour blended with the background papers.

Beautiful Blooms for Card Making

December 15th, 2011

We just love flowers for card making and these blooms will really make your cards stand out.

There are ten blooms to a pack with varying shades and sizes in each pack. Sizes of blooms vary from 30mm to 40mm approximately.

There are 15 different colours of packs to choose from – all gorgeous. The flowers are made by a company that’s relatively new to the British card making scene – Kaisercraft. They are an Australian company and not only do they make beautiful flowers but they do the most stunning paper packs as well – which we will be stocking.

Card Making Stocking Fillers

December 12th, 2011

You’ve made all you Christmas cards, shopped for presents and ordered the turkey, but if you still have to find some little stocking fillers we have some suggestions for you – all under £10.

Beautiful paper stacks are always welcome to anyone who love card making and the Prima 6 x 6 stacks have 48 sheets – 2 each of 24 designs.

If your crafty friend has a die cutting machine, or is one of the many who will be getting one this Christmas, there are some lovely dies in the Marianne Creatables or Nellie’s ranges that are quite inexpensive. Alternatively a nice embossing folder set such as the Sizzix Textured Impressions ones would go down a treat.

Anyone who is into rubber stamping can never have enough Promarkers or classic stamps that they will use over and over again such as the U-Mount Rambling Rose.

For some-one who has just started card making an EaziScore board for creasing cards would be much appreciated.

All of these card making present suggestions are from our best sellers and have withstood the test of timeso you know you can’t go wrong.

9 December 2011

December 9th, 2011

I’m a bit surprised that we are still getting orders for Cuttlebugs, Grand Caliburs, and Big Shots, which are obviously Christmas presents for some lucky card makers, as I thought most people would have had their Christmas presents sorted now. A late addition to the Christmas present list, probably because we have just got them in, is the Carl RT-200 rotary trimmer and at present stock levels, and the way they are flying out the door it looks as if we may be sold out by Christmas day so if you want one before Christmas don’t leave it too late.

We will be restocking the Carl RT-200 but, as most of our supplies close from 16 December till after the New Year it won’t be until the second week of January.

Well, I’m sure that everyone is now counting down to Christmas. Even those who do not celebrate Christmas will be looking forward to the holiday. As this tends to be a quieter time of year,  our suppliers are closed, and Royal Mail don’t collect during Christmas to New Year, we take our holidays too during the Christmas season so the next Madeleine’s diary entry will probably come from France or Spain. The staff, however, will still be working up to Christmas Eve, and Owen will be there during the Christmas – New Year period for part of the day although the shop will be closed.

Anyone can still contact us via the contact form on the website or via email as we will be picking up on both of those daily. If you follow Craftsite on Twitter, I will be tweeting whilst we’re away.

I read the other day an article by a marketing expert how to use Twitter for your business. The gist was that one should push one’s products and services and not tweet anything personal.  I have to totally disagree. Twitter works by people following other people so you want to people who are interesting to follow and the concept of “Business, business, buy from me” is like inviting spam into your Twitter account. I never follow people who do that although I do follow some very interesting business people who show the person behind the business. As the person who tweets for Craftsite I try to do just that. Yes, I’m passionate about card making but I’m passionate about other things too. What are they? Follow me on Twitter and you’ll find out.

3 New Card Making Projects

December 5th, 2011

We have added 3 more card making projects to our gallery. The first 2 are really economical to make as the main components are pretty backing papers that need just the minimum of embellishments to finish them off.  Both cards will cost under £1 to make. The first 2 cards are not only economical but simple and quick to make too.

The first card, above, is an A6 landscape card that uses some backing papers from the Prima Madeline paper stack and a small piece of lace. The lace was  “aged” with distress ink.

The second card was made using one of the square cards from the 50 148mm x 148mm card and envelope packs, backing papers from the Madeline paper stack and a few Prima flowers. The main embellishment is a peel off birthday verse – so simple.

The last card is not simple – it is a work of art – but then again not that difficult to make following our easy step by step instructions. The card has 2 fronts to it and is a stunning card to make to give to a special person.

Mulberry Paper and Mulberry Paper Embellishments

December 3rd, 2011

If you’ve been looking for handmade mulberry paper for your card making you may have been surprised to see that the choice of colours has reduced considerably. Similarly if you are looking for one of our many lovely mulberry paper embellishments for card making you may find the one you want no longer appears on our website.

This is a temporary situation which we hope will be back to normal early in the New Year – and I know our suppliers certainly hope so too.

Mulberry Paper is made in Thailand and you may have heard on the news a few weeks ago that Bangkok was flooded but, although it is no longer in the news and the water is receding, there are still problems in Thailand with the flood waters.  Following the worst monsoon in over 50 years, not only was Bangkok affected by floods by 14 other provinces in Thailand as well.  Some areas still remain flooded and others, where the water has receded, are now coping with mounds of mud. This has had a major effect on transport – both road and rail. Supplies are limited and some items will take some time before they become available again.

One factory in Bangkok was flooded in the first round of floods and just as they were completing a massive 2 week clean up operation they were flooded again – the second time much worse than the first. They have still to recover from the second flood.

Please bear with us. The Thais are a cheerful and optimistic people and are working hard to get things back to normal.  We will let you know in our Newsletter as soon as stocks become available again.

Introducing the Carl RT-200 Rotary Cutter

December 1st, 2011

The RT-200 rotary cutter is the latest rotary trimmer from Carl. It is a high quality, heavy duty, table top rotary trimmer ideal for card making.

The RT-200 can easily handle card as well as paper and we have cut 300 gsm Ice Silver card using this machine.  There are both vertical and horizontal rulers that are marked in both inches (sub divided to eighths of an inch) and centimeters (subdivided into millimetres) for accurate measuring of the card or paper to be cut.  There are also standard sizes, such as A4, clearly marked for ease of cutting and, if you are into scrap-booking, the standard photo sizes are clearly marked as well for easy cropping.  The grid-lines on the trimmer are one inch apart and help you align you card when cutting.  The RT-200 has a full 12 inch cut so can easily handle 12 x 12 inch papers as well.

With the RT-212 comes 1 straight blade and 2 decorative edge blades of your choice and changing blades is really easy.

For those of you who already have the Carl DC-212 or PRT-100 rotary trimmers, both the blades and cutting mats for the RT-200 also fit the DC-212 and PRT-100.

Peel Off Verses for Card Making

November 24th, 2011

New from Doodey are these sets of peel off verses for card making.  There are 3 different sets: Birthdays, All Occasions, and Christmas.

Each set contains 24 different verses. There are 6 verses to each sheet and 12 sheets in a pack giving you 72 verses in total.  In other words, there are 3 sheets of the same 6 verses x 4 sheets of verses - 12 sheets in each set – 2 of each sheet of verses in gold and 1 in silver.

Whichever way it’s calculated at £12.95 per set that’s excellent value for money.

Each verse with its double embossed border is on a transparent background so you peel the verse and border off as one – no fiddling about trying to get the wording in the right place – and simply stick it on your card or insert. What could be easier?

Here a verse has been used as the main topper on the front of the card using some pretty background papers and a few flowers. Step by step instructions to make this card can be found in our Gallery.  The verses can also be used on the inserts – very handy if you get stuck for words when writing greeting on your inserts – and will certainly give your card the wow factor when it is opened.

The All Occasions set covers: On Your Wedding Day, Anniversary, Birthdays including 1 Forgot Your Birthday, Friendship - and the one that is usually difficult to find the right words –  Condolences.

The double embossed detail of the borders is fantastic and can be seen in this sheet of verses from the Birthday set.

Each sheet of verses is approx. 225mm x 200mm. The size of verses themselves vary depending on whether they are rectangular or oval but to give you an idea of size the rectangular one on the top left hand corner of this sheet is approx. 65mm wide and 90mm high.

This is a product you will use again and again for your handmade cards.
