Most retail websites include VAT – as they are required to do but how many times have you got to the checkout to receive a rather nasty shock as VAT is added on to your purchase price at the end of your transaction? I know I’ve come across it a few times.

Excuses, usually found in the small print, include that the retailer sometimes sells to businesses or occasionally sells goods outside of the UK. Not good enough – and what’s more it’s illegal. If you come across this practice the best thing to do is go and shop elsewhere.
