Decoupage Masterpiece

April 5th, 2010

As everyone should know by now, Owen is our decoupage expert. At Craftsite, we all have areas of expertise but only Owen would we class as a master in his field. And we would like to show you why.

This picture is quite big and it hangs, behind the counter, on the wall of the Craftsite shop where, needless to say, it is admired by all.

Unlike card making, this is not step by step decoupage. It is made from 7 full print sheets. Every single piece must be cut from the print using a craft knife, held at the correct angle, of course. Each piece of each layer is built up using silicon glue until the background with its fewer layers and the foreground with its 7 layers is complete. It takes lots of hours to do. The piece are covered with decoupage glaze and, although you can’t quite see it on the photograph, the finished flowers have the look of porcelain – many an admirer has been astonished to find that it was made from paper prints.

But Owen’s expertise doesn’t stop there. Once the decoupage is complete, he mounts it, and makes the frame as well. The framing really sets off the decoupaged picture. So not only is Owen a decoupage master he’s a master framer as well.
