Mary’s Cards

June 29th, 2011

We just love these 3 cards from Mary.

The first card is made from a decoupage card making kit but instead of using the card making kit just as it comes Mary has added her own twist by mounting the card onto an A5 textured card, adding a double row of self adhesive lace borders down the left hand side and then emphasising the borders with narrow borders silver peel offs.  The paper insert has been printed on an inkjet printer and then cut around the edge using decorative scissors.  We find that often it is the attention to small details like these that turn a good card into a great card.

Mary’s second card couldn’t be more different and is sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. The wording reads: We know a bird who loves line dancing. It uses cream textured card for the 5 x 7 creased card and black and gold cards matted and layered to create a mount for the parrot picture card topper. The addition of the gold peel off border from the Classic Borders and Scrolls peel off sheet completes the card and – a nice touch – scrolls from the same sheet add interest to the corners.

The final card is quite a simple card to make as it uses a card making topper and a butterfly decorative sticker but is a quite stunning card. The base card is A5 white linen , the frame of the topper is glued directly onto the card and the centre sentiments panel is raised by using 3D foam tape. The self adhesive butterfly decorative sticker and the 4 small clear gems complete the card. As with the first card, the insert has been printed on an inkjet printer and the edges trimmed with decorative scissors.  One of the trickier aspects of card making is knowing when a card needs a little something more and when to stop. This card gets the balance just right.

Dory’s Cards

May 19th, 2010

Although Dory’s card making covers a wonderful wide range of cards she specialises in quilled cards and decoupage. Quilling is really relaxing and had the benefit that you can do it almost anywhere. Customers have even been known to take quilling pen and strips on holiday with them along with some plastic bags to put the finished pieces in ready to to make cards with when they get home!

Here are the cards Dory made.

To get the right shade for the designs she is quilling, Dory often cuts her own strips of quilling paper. Dory’s tip when choosing paper for quilling is to look at the paper end on – as it will be seen on the finished card – as it can look quite different when viewed from this angle.

Customers’ Cards

May 13th, 2010

Many of our customers make beautiful cards so we thought we would showcase them here. Some customers specialise in types of cards, e.g. decoupage or rubber stamping; others specialise in occasions, e.g. christmas or weddings.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve just been card making for a few weeks or you’ve been card making for years – we’d  like to see them here.
